Privacy Policy
Last updated October 19, 2026
Lockhearth is built so that we know as little about you as possible. We do not run an account system, we do not show ads, and the app does not send analytics by default.
In short: your documents are encrypted on your device before they are stored or synced. They live on your devices and in your own iCloud. We never have the keys, so we cannot read them, and we cannot unlock your vault for you.
What the app stores, and where
- Your documents, photos, videos and notes are encrypted on your device with keys that only your devices hold. They are stored on your devices and, if you turn on sync, in your private iCloud database under your Apple Account.
- Your vault key is kept in your device Keychain and, for restoring on a new device, in iCloud Keychain, which Apple encrypts end to end.
- Titles, document types and expiry dates are part of an encrypted index. They are not stored in readable form, on your devices or in iCloud.
- Your recovery phrase and printed kit exist only on paper and in your hands. The app never uploads them.
Apple operates iCloud and its handling of that storage is described in Apple's own privacy policy. Apple stores the encrypted data but cannot read it.
What we collect
We collect nothing that identifies you. Lockhearth has no server that receives your files, your name, your email address or your contacts. The app contains no advertising or tracking libraries.
If you choose to share crash reports with app developers in your device settings, Apple sends us anonymized crash logs. You can turn this off at any time in Settings, Privacy & Security, Analytics & Improvements.
Purchases are handled by Apple. We receive sales reports from Apple that do not tell us who you are.
Sharing with your family
When you share a room, it is shared through iCloud with the people you invite. They can see what is in that room and nothing else. When you set up a trusted person for emergencies, they receive nothing readable until a waiting period has passed and you approve their request.
Features that run on your device
Text recognition in scanned documents and the optional assistant run on your device. Your documents are not sent to us or to anyone else to provide them.
Test versions
Test builds are distributed through Apple's TestFlight, which shares your tester email and any feedback or crash reports you send with us, as Apple describes in TestFlight's terms. The onboarding study build keeps a short log of which setup steps you completed and how long they took. It stays on your device unless you choose to send it, and it never contains your recovery words, your keys or your documents.
This website
This site sets no cookies, runs no analytics and loads its fonts from this site, not from a font service. It is hosted on GitHub Pages; GitHub may log visitor IP addresses for security, as described in GitHub's privacy statement.
Children
Lockhearth is meant for adults managing their family's documents. Parents can store their children's papers, but the app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.
Your rights
Because we do not hold personal data about you, there is nothing on our side to access, correct or delete. You control your data directly: delete items in the app, delete the app, or remove Lockhearth's data from iCloud in Settings, your name, iCloud, Manage Storage. If you are in the European Union you also have the right to complain to your data protection authority.
Changes and contact
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date at the top. Questions about privacy: privacy@lockhearth.app.
